10 tips for improving the text on the website
The text conveys the main information on the site, but it does not always perform this function properly. Sometimes the design does not allow you to fully read the text, sometimes it is simply poorly laid out or written. In this article, we will tell you how to improve the text on the site so that it helps the user to learn more about your product faster. It will be not only about how to write the text, but also how to visually work with it.
Use one font pair
A font pair is two different fonts that go well together. Even if their combination is questionable, it will help to perceive the text easier, since the eye will not get used to a new style every time. A font pair usually consists of a font for headings and subheadings and a font for text. We recommend using laconic fonts without a lot of serifs and excessive creative design. They will make reading the text comfortable.
Be careful with highlighting text
There may be a thought or a quote in the text that you want to somehow visually highlight. Some people recommend bold, italics or underlining, but we think it might look out of place on a website. It is better to think over in advance what idea you want to emphasize and already type it up properly. For example, a quote can be highlighted with a frame, a line with a large text size, or you can give it more air around so that it catches the eye.
Write briefly
Avoid long sentences. Write short and to the point. People read websites diagonally, most often even on the go from a mobile device. Therefore, thought should be presented in comfortable segments. Try to put the main thing in a capacious format. If you manage to interest the reader, then in more detail he will familiarize himself with everything.
Write simply
There is no need to appear smarter than your clients by composing sentences into complex structures with metaphors or clericalism. Write in a simple conversational style so that the text is understandable and the reader does not have to wade through the jungle of embellishments and terminology. An exception can only be those cases when the target audience of customers is deeply immersed in the product and they are not embarrassed by professional formulations. For other consumers, it is better to write simply and clearly.
Use lists
Visually simplify the perception of information. To do this, use lists, tables, charts, mind maps. All this helps a person to quickly read a large amount of data. When there are a lot of enumerations, numbers and their explanations in the text, a person almost always decides to avoid this information, therefore it is better to present it in a more convenient format.
Start with the main
You don't need a long introduction to the proposal itself. Start by explaining the benefits to the consumer. So he will immediately determine whether you are suitable for him and will decide for himself whether he should continue to be on your site. When the first part of the page is devoted to abstract stories, advertising slogans and the formation of a need, then the user is likely to leave without determining what exactly you are selling. Therefore, in the beginning, the essence of the offer, and then its disclosure.
Mark clickable text
Not all sites have a clickable label that obviously shows this. We are used to the fact that the text with embedded links is written in blue letters. This pattern can also be used in your project, as users already have an understanding of what clickable text looks like. If this type of text does not suit you, then come up with your own way to show the clickability of the inscription. It can be a frame, a changed letter thickness, an underline, or an icon. The main thing is to show the ability to click on this text, otherwise most users will not do this.
One paragraph, one meaning
We will not talk about the importance of breaking the text into paragraphs, but we will note the fact that it is better that one paragraph be devoted to one thought. You can separate text by meaning not only with standard paragraphs, but also with icons, background colors, subheadings or illustrations. This allows you to quickly get acquainted with the information and isolate the most important from it.
Less effects
Do not load the text on the site with various effects of blurring, popping, revealing and other things. This does not always work correctly, due to which the animation may not display correctly on non-standard or mobile screens and half of the text will be outside of it. If you want to add dynamics to the text, then do it through quotes or a title. The main text is better to leave as it is.
Reinforce text with images
Not always the text is enough to easily and quickly convey the idea. But it can always be strengthened by illustration or example. This will help draw the user's attention to a part of the text and visually show something. As an illustration, you can use an icon for faster site navigation, a photo or diagram to explain something, or even a full-fledged infographic. Just posting a picture that roughly matches the meaning is not worth it. The image should complement the meaning, and not serve as an accessory to the text.
The website's text is simple to understand both in terms of meaning and perception. The text will no longer serve its purpose to the fullest extent if you omit at least one of the components.
