8 best practices for creating a call to action

The Red Website Design team shared 8 tips for writing an effective call to action. Here's what they advise:

1. Keep your calls to action short. Create urgency. Creating a sense of urgency or scarcity is a well-known and effective trick for boosting conversions. Use time related words: "buy now", "start now", "subscribe now", "limited", "reserve your seat", "last chance", "sale ends tomorrow". Add a countdown timer to show when the offer expires.

2. Try reverse psychology. The idea is to offer the user two long answers to choose from. For example, to the question “Do you want more traffic?”, you can offer answers: “Yes, I want more traffic” and “No, there is enough traffic.”

3. Personalize your calls to action. Personalizing calls to action can increase your conversion rate by over 200%.

4. Use responsive design. At least 50% of your users are browsing your site on mobile devices. Therefore, the content of the site must be displayed correctly on them.

5. Use contrasting colors and white space. Make sure your call to action stands out from the background of the page. Using contrasting colors is the easiest way to do this. If your call to action is the same color as the text, it will blend into the background.

6. Turn your calls to action into a button. This is the most familiar design option for the user.

7. Double check your landing pages. Always check that all buttons and links on the page work properly.

8. Test and refine. It is unlikely that you will be able to create a perfectly optimized call to action on the first try. On the contrary, it is an ongoing process, so you should test and constantly improve your calls to action. A/B testing can help with this.
