How to drive organic clicks and leads from your Instagram account
Instagram is a great platform for promoting through influencers, but getting organic clicks and conversions is not easy here. This is because it does not allow clickable links in subtitles, which limits traffic generation. However, difficult does not mean impossible. Here are a few steps to help you get high converting traffic from your Instagram feed.
1. Create compelling content
Content quality is critical to Instagram if you want people to stop scrolling when they see your post. Otherwise, everything you do to get clicks is irrelevant.
Creating quality content involves a lot of brainstorming, competitive analysis, and tons of experimentation. Instagram content will also require you to have image and video editing skills. Try apps for creating and editing visual content. Using apps, you will be able to come up with more and more content ideas.
Finally, the most powerful force of creativity is collaboration. You need to involve more friends and colleagues in content creation. You can do this in a variety of ways, such as creating branding kits and using creative project management tools.
2. Use a call to action in the post.
This is where the good old Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) rule comes into play: most people won't think about anything until they're told to. This rule is especially true on Instagram, where people are used to swiping and liking rather than looking for links to follow.
So don't forget to invite your followers to "follow the link in bio", but do it in a natural and noticeable way. In other words, make this call to action contextual, like this:
- "Tap the link in bio to read the full story."
- "Tap the link in bio to watch the video in high resolution."
- "Tap the link in bio to get something for free (or download)."
You don't have to create a call to action for every Instagram post. Create multiple variations and rotate them depending on the topic of the post.
3. Share your content on Instagram
Users who see your content in other people's Stories will go to your profile page. Most likely, many of them will be curious enough to follow your link in bio.
To get more exposure for your Instagram content, take the time to get to know your followers and build your community. Every niche has Instagram accounts where you can find creative images and videos with unique hashtags. They repost select Instagram updates that use these hashtags.
Another way to get featured on Instagram is to target local business accounts. Tag your favorite company in your caption, and include a location. Most companies will repost your visual story.
4. Create interactive stories
Apart from the bio link, Instagram stories are the only place where you can add links. Since the end of last year, the social network has opened up such an opportunity for almost everyone. To qualify for interactive stories, you need to:
- verify your Instagram account;
- after you pass verification, you will see the option to add a URL when adding a new story. Interactive stories lead viewers straight to your link.
5. Optimize your landing page for Instagram users
Finally, what is often overlooked in any traffic generation strategy is optimizing that traffic for conversion. Here are a few ways to make the most of traffic on Instagram:
- Mobile devices. Most Instagram users use the app, so expect the majority of your Instagram traffic to come from mobile devices. Make sure your landing page looks good on mobile and loads quickly.
- 5 second test. Instagram users interrupted their scroll to get to your page. If you don't get their attention within a few seconds, they will leave. Do a five-second test to make sure your page makes a good first impression quickly.
UsabilityHub offers this option, and if you don't want them to find testers for you, the test is free. Here's how to do it:
- Take a screenshot of your Instagram landing page on your mobile device.
- Create a new test inside UsabilityHub.
- Ask test takers to tell you the first thing they see in the screenshot, or if they understand what the page is about.
- Take a link to your test and send it to friends and acquaintances.
The test will help you understand whether your page is easy to understand and whether your sales offers and calls to action are attracting attention.
Make sure you know what you want your users to do on this page and make sure the call to action matches your Instagram content.
Traffic generation is a constant struggle. No tactic will allow you to build the process once and relax to see how people go. Traffic generation requires constant experimentation and testing, and Instagram traffic is no different in this regard. We hope these tips will inspire you with new ideas and actions to create and fine-tune your Instagram traffic strategy.
